I look forward to finishing work, walking Wilma my dog and having dinner watching whatever show I’m hooked on that week, right now that is ‘The Traitors’. Work life balance can be hard for me as a neurodiverse person, especially staying aware of the time and time passing, this year I’m focusing on building good habits that help me make time to sit after work and unwind and do things I enjoy.
I look forward to getting home from work to my cats, immediately putting something cosy on and listening to some music while I cook my dinner. I will often pop something on the tv to watch while I also scroll aimlessly on my phone (oops!). I enjoy a good book so if i have on the go I’ll sit and read with some calming music on in the background.
When I home from a busy day, it is important for me to create a calming space at home that I can switch off and relax with the cats!
I work from home so I usually don’t have a long ‘commute’ but I like to do something that marks the end of work. Usually this is collecting my daughter from nursery or a run with Tilly the dog. I enjoy orienteering so often run around with a map in my hand in the evening – still geography but it doesn’t feel like work!
I love getting home to our dogs – whether you leave the house for 5 mins or the whole day, they greet us with such love. In the summer my wife and I try to get home early and go for a walk with the dogs. In the winter, I often look forward to spending time in the kitchen cooking (normally with one of the two dogs standing guard for any scraps that ‘fall’ on the floor).
