I love that I can do lots of differing things each day, and get to help a wide variety of people. I also get to keep learning, everyday. There is always a new piece of information, way of thinking, way of doing something. That is super cool.
The fact my job is based on answering question about the world around me that I find the most interesting! I get to design and undertake research that is all really interesting to me, which makes working really fun! My days are also different, some days I’ll be in a river taking samples, others I will be working in a lab and other days I’ll be at my desk analysing my data! I absolutely love it 🙂
My job is mostly solving problems. That might be working out the best way to do a tricky survey, it might be how to explain a complex new task so that it can be understood and completed by ~150 surveyors across GB or how to improve a process to improve quality and reduce the time and effort required. So the best part is when I work with my colleagues to find a solution and see the positive results of that.
I love going out to new places and looking for evidence of wildlife and making sure it is protected. This can be in the countryside or in the city but nature is everywhere and some surprising places, you just have to look for things that stand out from everything else in your surroundings and this can provide evidence on the presence of wildlife
Helping people understand more about natural hazards. Both helping avoid being affected, and also help them recover following a natural hazard event affecting them.
This is the aim of the organisation I work for: to reduce the impact on people and property when natural disasters occur, by protecting homeowners and helping them recover from natural hazard events.
