Developing a country sustainably would be complicated as it would require many aspecdts to work with each other including politics, economic priorities of gov and everyone else for that matter, technology would play a critical role and also the behaviour of the general public and public and private sectors would have to all be in support to work together, but other areas of day to day life would have to change too, transporet, consuption of materials/ brands etc etc

Yes but it needs more commitment from world leaders to provide incentives for low carbon energy and buildings and make alternatives more expensive

There are clearly concerns with the politics from the USA changing the position on climate change but individual countries and individual people can begin to make a difference

Yes, I have every confidence they can. It starts individually and grows so each person can be a change and momentum can be gathered.

I think this is a really difficult question. The simple answer would be yes, countries can develop sustainably, and we have seen it in some higher income countries, but there are a lot of complex and intersecting factors which affect a country’s ability to develop sustainably. This can range from availability of resources and financial pressures, to natural hazards and willingness to change. Countries also have to balance improving people’s lives today with meeting the needs of people in the future which, when things are changing so rapidly on a global scale, is very difficult. All of this being said, I would also like to echo James’s point and say that individuals can do a lot to contribute towards sustainability at local, regional and national levels, though again, this can be limited by external factors.
