The passion of geography, Love it! I got into geography when I was quite young. As a child I would go fossil hunting on the beach on family holidays and I was always interested in the sea and why it was there, in that exact place and not in a different place. When I got older I became interested in volcanoes and earthquakes and then from that into rocks.
Growing up near the Lake District meant that I was always surrounded by incredible nature, the mountains, the lakes, and everything in between! I always wanted to be there, and to this day some of my favourite places in the world are in the Lakes! Where I grew up (Carlisle) was also subject to lots of really bad flooding when I was growing up, and so I got to see first hand why the flooding happened- Carlisle is situated on the confluence of three rivers (the Eden, the Caldew, and the Petteril), and the aftermath of these floods.
Also lots of my holidays as a child helped build that passion for geography – we would often visit the South West Coast, also known as the Jurassic Coast, where we got to do lots of fossil hunting, or across to North Yorkshire and Northumberland where we got to see some of the amazing landscapes in those areas too!
