My favourite type of map is a thematic humanitarian operations map. To me, it feels like a “helping map.” Instead of showing mountains or roads, it shows where people need support during hard times, like floods, earthquakes, or storms. It also shows where helpers, like doctors, volunteers, and rescue teams, are working. When I look at it, I imagine heroes travelling to the places marked on the map to bring food, medicine, and hope. This map reminds me that kindness can travel around the world.

Even though I make maps of wildlife, and habitats as part of my job which is pretty cool, I must admit I like an interactive map for example some can be found on local authority websites and these allow you to zoom in and out of ares of interest and and turn different layers (planning and development, heritage and culture trees, habitats, roads, urban areas, pollution etc etc ) on and off depending on what part of the city you are interested in. Here is a link to my local combined authority in Greater Manchester https://mappinggm.org.uk/maps/exploregm/ you should see if your local authority has an interactive map you check out 🙂

Ordnance Survey 1:25000 map for every part of the UK. We live in a fantastic country with so many different types of landscape, created in so many different ways. The map scale above allows us to see and understand how our country evolved not only the landscape and countryside but also our towns and roads and railways

A simple one. Less can be more. A map is a picture of information so the information shouldn’t get lost.
